Victor Javier Ramos, a 28-year-old Hispanic man, was shot in the chest on January 31, 2021, at about 4:15 p.m. in the 1200 block of Roosevelt Court in Sunnyside. Witnesses said a passenger in a passing vehicle fired multiple shots, striking Ramos and hitting the house in front of which he stood; the residence was struck at least four times. Three other people were inside the home at the time and were not injured. Ramos was taken to Astria Sunnyside Hospital and later died of his wound.
Investigators identified two suspects: Adrian Bueno, 30, alleged to be the vehicle driver, and Francisco Rudy Gallardo, 43, alleged to be the shooter. Court documents described Bueno as a Sureño gang member and Gallardo as an associate; police said Ramos met criteria to be documented as a gang member, a claim his family disputed. After the shooting, Bueno fled to Mexico and later surrendered to U.S. Border Patrol in Yuma, Arizona; a warrant remains outstanding for Gallardo.
In August 2022 Bueno entered an Alford plea to second-degree manslaughter; earlier charges including first- and second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and a drive-by shooting were dropped under a plea agreement. A judge sentenced Bueno to seven and a half years in prison. Does anyone have information about the shooting or about Gallardo’s whereabouts?
