On the evening of February 22, 2020, 21-year-old Patrick Steven Romero was fatally shot outside his grandmother’s apartment on West Bruneau Place in Kennewick, Washington. Romero had been inside with his 16-year-old sister and two younger friends when a passing car’s occupants fired a BB gun at the apartment. After Romero and the others went outside to cover a broken window, the car returned. Following a confrontation in which Romero threw rocks at the vehicle, the car pulled away and then stopped in a nearby alley.
Four occupants ran up on Romero and a 14-year-old; Stuart B. Walker, then 17, allegedly fired a .40-caliber handgun twice, and a single bullet struck Romero in the upper chest. The occupants fled and Romero died in the parking lot. Kennewick detectives arrested Raheem Mayberry in Pasco and took two other teenagers into custody; Walker was arrested and charged with murder. Romero’s family described him as kind and generous, a father to a young daughter who often helped relatives and gave blankets to people in need.
If anyone knew Patrick or was in that neighborhood that night, please share what was seen or heard.
