In late summer 2019 a domestic dispute in South Hill, Washington, ended in the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Brian Ray Ragan. On the morning of August 23, after an argument at his estranged wife’s home that reportedly began the night before, Ragan left on a bicycle. His 20-year-old stepson, Tylor Saegert, and two other men pursued him in a Dodge Charger. Neighbors who saw the car chasing the bicycle placed several 911 calls. The two passengers later told investigators they got out of the vehicle when they saw Saegert had a gun.

Saegert fired multiple shots; Ragan was hit in the back of the head and was found in the backyard of a nearby home. He was taken to Tacoma General Hospital in critical condition and died several days later. The Pierce County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide. Hours after the shooting Saegert surrendered and was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, drive-by shooting and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He pleaded not guilty at arraignment and bail was set at $1 million; his attorney said Ragan had been abusive and had broken into the house that morning.

Does anyone in the South Hill area remember the events that morning or have information about the chase and shooting?
