Lila Wilson, 38, was killed on June 10, 2019, in Renton, Washington, after a dispute in the apartment where she lived with her father, her husband, and their 14-month-old child. A disagreement about the placement of a baby gate escalated when her father, 68-year-old Wendell Allen Wilson, retrieved a handgun and shot her multiple times in the child’s presence.

Wendell Wilson called 911 after the shooting. Officers who arrived at the scene found Lila with fatal gunshot wounds and took him into custody; he was cooperative and was later arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Reports say he admitted during questioning that the argument over the baby gate prompted the shooting.
