Bishop F. McKinney, 28, was fatally shot in the living room of a Cottage Lane Southeast residence in Lacey, Washington during the early morning hours of July 3, 2018. Officers arrived about 3 a.m. after reports of a disturbance and found McKinney with a gunshot wound to his chest; medics and officers were unable to revive him.
Two other people were in the home. A 24-year-old man, Terell L. D. Doyle, was questioned and arrested after heroin was found during an initial search. Investigators later identified Doyle as the primary suspect; he admitted to shooting McKinney but said it was self-defense following a physical altercation that reportedly began over an iPad and a cellphone and included a struggle over a gun Doyle said belonged to McKinney. Doyle was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and a judge found probable cause, with bail set at $1 million. Police also sought two other individuals who fled before officers arrived.
McKinney, born November 29, 1989, was remembered by his family for his infectious laughter and caring personality. If anyone has information about the events at that Cottage Lane residence that night, please come forward.
