Shiraz Al-Samarrai, 24, of Renton, Washington, was shot and killed at an apartment building in Renton on March 26, 2016. Authorities charged Omar Acevedo with second-degree murder in connection with the killing; Acevedo was arrested four days after the shooting in the Lower Valley after allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint, stealing his car, and leading officers on a chase. He was held on $750,000 bail.
The community organized a fundraiser to help cover Shiraz’s funeral expenses and to assist his family in shipping his body back home; the effort was led by Mosti E, a close friend of Shiraz’s older brother. The case drew attention to gang-related violence in the area and its effects on families and neighborhoods.
Does anyone have additional information about Shiraz, his activities in Renton, or the events around March 26, 2016?
