Miguel Arciga, 23 and from Outlook, Washington, was shot to death on December 11, 2014, outside a bar in Wapato after a confrontation that began inside the bar and continued outdoors. The fight involved Arciga and two other men, Teodulo Martinez and Juan Rodriguez. Both Martinez and Rodriguez were charged with murder; in October 2015, days before their trial, each pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter. Martinez, then 24, was sentenced to over 13 years, and Rodriguez, then 25, received an eight-year sentence.
Witness accounts at trial varied, with some people saying Arciga may have instigated the fight, but the court found Martinez and Rodriguez culpable and accepted the manslaughter pleas. Arciga’s family spoke at sentencing about the loss and its impact on their lives.
Did anyone in the community witness the confrontation inside the bar or the moments leading up to the shooting?
