Melissa Ann Matz-Warren-Clark, 36, was killed on October 21, 2020, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Police were called to a home in Omro after a fire and a report that someone had broken in and a woman was not breathing. Responding officers found the bodies of Melissa Matz and 40-year-old Lavar Wallace of Appleton. Investigators noted a strong smell of gasoline, rags soaked in gasoline, and a candle that appeared to have been used as a makeshift fuse.
Andrew Clark was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and one count of attempting to mutilate a corpse. Trial testimony included that Clark and Melissa had argued the night before at an adult entertainment club, and that the argument continued at the home where Clark shot Melissa and Wallace. Michael Draine, Clark’s nephew, testified that he witnessed the killings and described Clark as frantic.
Clark was found guilty on all counts and received two life sentences for the murders plus an additional four years for attempting to mutilate a corpse. Melissa is remembered by family and friends for her infectious smile and the joy she brought to those around her.
Did anyone who knew Melissa or her circle in Oshkosh or Omro notice signs of escalating conflict before October 21, 2020?
