James Lemke, 59, and his wife Nedra were found shot to death in the driveway of a rural Sumner, Wisconsin property on June 16, 2020. The couple had driven to Nedra’s recently deceased father’s home to check on the house after discovering broken windows; Nedra called 911 to report a possible burglary and said she felt uneasy about entering. That call was her last communication.

When a Jefferson County deputy arrived, he discovered the two victims and came under fire from the residence. The deputy returned fire, and soon after the house began filling with black smoke as it was set ablaze; investigators say the fire appears to have been deliberately started as a diversion. Authorities quickly characterized the incident as a targeted attack.

Kevin P. Anderson, Nedra’s brother, is the primary suspect. Anderson’s truck was found at the scene, and law enforcement charged him with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide, one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide for shooting at the deputy, and arson. Extensive searches using planes, helicopters, and drones have not located him; he remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

If anyone knew James or Nedra, or has information about Kevin Anderson’s whereabouts, please come forward with tips.
