Miguel Angel Rios, 30, was shot and killed on December 25, 2011, in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood. He had stepped out that Christmas night intending to meet his girlfriend but was instead attacked by unknown assailants, shot and robbed. No arrests have been announced in connection with the killing.
Known as Chipo to friends and family, Miguel had just graduated from UIC College Prep and planned to attend the University of Illinois Chicago to study mechanical engineering. His mother, Catalina Andrade, remembers their last hug the night before he was killed; his younger siblings—including brother Alexander and sister Anadelaih—have been deeply affected by his loss. Catalina has been active with Mothers and Families for Justice and has organized public actions to demand answers.
Miguel’s family says the murder has changed their daily lives and future plans, with Anadelaih expressing an interest in criminal justice inspired by her brother’s death. Anyone who knew Miguel, witnessed events that night, or has information that could help bring justice is urged to come forward.
