On May 28, 2017, a verbal altercation in the 100 block of South Franklin Street in Janesville, Wisconsin, ended with the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Eddie Lee Jones of Markham, Illinois. According to reports, the dispute with 32-year-old Barquis D. Odom of Beloit escalated just before 12:30 a.m., and Odom produced a handgun and shot Jones in the face and neck. Jones was found wounded inside a house, taken to a local hospital, and later pronounced dead; the Rock County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death homicidal firearm trauma.
Police said drugs were found on Jones’s person, and witnesses identified Odom as the shooter. Officers located a vehicle driven by Odom later that same day and conducted a high-risk stop on Rockport Road; Odom was taken into custody. He was charged with first-degree intentional homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon. What can anyone who knew Eddie or was in Janesville that night add to the timeline or the circumstances leading up to the shooting?
