On the morning of February 5, 2016, at about 5:30 a.m. in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, 52-year-old Kor Yang was fatally shot after answering a knock at his door. Yang’s wife, her two children and her grandson were inside the home but were not physically harmed. Police described the attack as targeted rather than random, though no specific motive was announced.
Investigators identified two suspects: 22-year-old Quinn Orn Smith and 25-year-old Joe Vang. A criminal complaint said DNA from both men was found on a handgun recovered near the scene, and ballistic testing at the Wisconsin State Crime Lab reportedly matched that gun to the shots that killed Yang. Smith was arrested and charged with first-degree intentional homicide and pleaded not guilty; the Manitowoc County District Attorney later dismissed the case against him in May 2017, citing insufficient evidence at that time and leaving the investigation active. Vang remained sought by police.
Did anyone in Manitowoc or the surrounding area have information about who might have wanted to harm Kor Yang or about the whereabouts of Joe Vang?
