Krystal R. Torres-Smith, a 39-year-old member of the Oneida Nation, was found shot multiple times in her vehicle in Communiversity Park on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus in the early morning hours of June 8, 2015. Investigators say the killing followed a prearranged meeting: Torres-Smith had arranged to meet Percy N. Sims, then 27, to sell him marijuana, and Sims shot her at close range. The firearm used was believed to have been stolen from a gun store that Sims was under federal investigation for burglarizing. Law enforcement located and arrested Sims on unrelated charges within days while building the homicide case against him.

Percy N. Sims was charged with Torres-Smith’s murder. In April 2016 he pleaded guilty, and in June 2016 a Brown County judge sentenced him to life in prison with eligibility for parole after 40 years. The courtroom was described as emotional, with many of Krystal’s family and friends present and her teenage daughter delivering a victim impact statement; Sims offered a brief apology before sentencing.

Does anyone who knew Krystal or was in the Green Bay area that night have details that could shed more light on the events leading up to this killing?
