Steven Trent Scoggins, 49, was a musician and studio owner in Muskogee, Oklahoma, known locally for playing in several bands and running Donkey Mountain Studio. He was married to Rhonda and they had three sons: Jacob, Jonah, and Oliver.
On the evening of December 12, 2021, their neighbor, Robert Rainford, knocked on the Scoggins back door. When Trent answered, Rainford shot him ten times, killing him in front of his family near 70th and Hancock, just outside the Muskogee city limits. Rainford later claimed, without substantiation, that the shooting was related to drugs.
Rainford was arrested and charged with murder. The case included an insanity plea that required evaluations; during the trial Trent’s wife Rhonda and son Jacob gave emotional testimony about what they witnessed. Rainford was found guilty of murdering Trent Scoggins. If anyone knew Trent or saw anything relevant that night, please share what can help the family and investigators.
