George Wallace Powell IV was 22 when he was shot and killed inside a private residence in Ardmore, Oklahoma, on the evening of January 19, 2021. The wound was caused by a single shot from a 9mm Hi-Point carbine during an altercation. Family and friends remember him for an engaging personality and warm smile.

The Ardmore Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case. Authorities identified 22-year-old Jonathan Ray Higginbotham Jr., also of Ardmore, as the suspect; the matter fell under federal jurisdiction because Higginbotham is a member of a federally recognized tribe and the shooting occurred within the Chickasaw Nation Reservation. A federal jury found Higginbotham guilty of involuntary manslaughter in Indian Country on May 19, 2022, and he was taken into U.S. Marshals custody to await sentencing.

If anyone knew George, his routines, or saw activity at the residence around January 19, 2021, please share what might help fill gaps in the timeline.
