John Robert Atkinson, 44, was killed on May 27, 2020, at a legal marijuana farm in a former bar north of Cushing, Oklahoma, where he worked. Authorities say he died of a gunshot to the head from a 9 mm semi-automatic firearm.
Investigators were alerted by a phone call from Atkinson’s 51-year-old ex-girlfriend, Ragina Louise Armstrong, an investor in the cannabis business, who told the dispatcher she had shot him and later told officers she acted in self-defense. The Payne County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation handled the case. No one else was at the business when the shooting occurred.
Armstrong was taken into custody at the scene, cooperated with investigators, and was released the next day after the District Attorney concluded there was insufficient evidence at that time to file charges. The investigation remained open pending the autopsy results.
If anyone was at the property around May 27 or has information about their relationship and recent events, please share what you know.
