On the night of May 26, 2019, 51-year-old Odis W. Turner Jr., a Black man, was found in the front yard of a West Osage Road residence in Duncan, Oklahoma, with a gunshot wound to the chest. Stephens County deputies and medical personnel responded around 10 p.m., and Turner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified 38-year-old Steven Charles Ekaitis as the person taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Initial reports say the events followed a domestic dispute earlier that day involving Turner and his girlfriend, who reportedly went to Ekaitis’s home and later remained there. Ekaitis has described firing one shot through his front door, saying Turner was attempting to force entry and that the shot was in self-defense.

A roommate of Ekaitis offered a different account, alleging Ekaitis and Turner's girlfriend bought a gun and practiced shooting earlier, exchanged texts that may have provoked Turner to come to the house, and that Ekaitis was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time. Ekaitis was held on a $5 million bond. Are there witnesses or information about the earlier domestic dispute or the texts that could clarify what happened that night?
