Joseph William Angelo was 24 when he was found in the front yard of a South Oak Street residence in Guthrie, Oklahoma, after reports of gunfire on the morning of April 5, 2017. He arrived at a hospital in Oklahoma City but died of multiple gunshot wounds; an autopsy later reported he had been shot more than 30 times.

Investigators say the shooting followed a drug deal that went wrong earlier that evening. Court documents and witness testimony described an earlier marijuana transaction and an incident in which one suspect, Reggie Dewayne Smith, was allegedly shot at. Authorities allege Smith then recruited his cousin Derrick Eugene Smith and two other men, Bracey Jashawn Perry and Frederic Lavelle Veasley Jr., who traveled from Oklahoma City to Guthrie and confronted people at the South Oak Street home.

All four men were arrested. Frederic Veasley Jr. pleaded guilty to being an accessory to a felony and received a 12-year sentence; Bracey Perry pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and received a life term with most years suspended. Derrick Eugene Smith later pleaded guilty for his role; Reggie Dewayne Smith went to trial and ultimately accepted a plea to conspiracy to commit a felony with a dangerous weapon, receiving a 10-year sentence.

Did anyone in Guthrie see or hear anything the night of April 5 that could add detail to what happened?
