A community rodeo in Spencer, Oklahoma, ended in tragedy on the evening of August 27, 2016, when gunfire during a fight left 14-year-old Mark Carter dead. The altercation involved a group of people, at least two individuals reportedly displayed firearms, and shots were fired into the crowd. Another teenager, 17-year-old Brandon Beiner, was also killed.

Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office investigators recovered two firearms believed to have been used and faced challenges in a crowded scene while trying to identify witnesses and those involved. A 21-year-old man, Chantal Mims, was taken into custody at the scene on a weapons charge, but it was not immediately clear what connection, if any, he had to the killings.
