On the morning of February 26, 2016, 30-year-old Nathan Scoggins was found shot on the kitchen floor of his mother’s home in Longtown, Oklahoma. Family described him as a devoted father, son and brother and a cowboy who worked with horses; he had been job hunting that week. His mother left to take his son to school around 7:50 a.m. and returned about 8:40 a.m. to find Nathan lying on his back with gunshot injuries.
Investigators first considered suicide but reclassified the death as a homicide after locating an initial bullet wound to the neck. A stolen .22-caliber pistol was recovered on the kitchen counter, yet the fatal bullet was a much larger caliber, indicating a second weapon. A burglary at the residence four days earlier, on February 22, during which several items were stolen, is believed to be connected. Nathan’s girlfriend was reportedly in the house at the time but could not describe any perpetrator.
No arrests or public identifications of suspects have been announced and the case remains unsolved. Did anyone in the area know Nathan, the household, or notice suspicious activity around that week?
