On September 26, 2015, 28-year-old Donald Upton was fatally shot while hunting with a group of men in the woods near Colcord in Delaware County, Oklahoma. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was called to the scene and led an inquiry into what was initially described as a hunting accident. Investigators established the identity of the person who fired the weapon, but no immediate arrest was made, and the matter was referred to the Delaware County District Attorney’s office to decide whether criminal charges were warranted.
Officials continued to weigh scene evidence and witness statements in the days after the shooting, and the prevailing account remained that the death resulted from a hunting accident. Few additional details about the circumstances have been released. If anyone was present that day or has information that could clarify what happened, please come forward.
