In the spring of 2015, Scotty Candler was killed at his Seminole, Oklahoma, home. On May 30, two men identified as John Douglas Knight and Matthew Armstrong went to Candler’s residence carrying firearms. Both were associated with the Indian Brotherhood, a prison-based gang, and had been ordered to question Candler about an unrelated homicide. The two men fled and discarded their weapons.
Federal authorities handled the case because of the gang connection and the crime’s location in Indian Country. Court filings say Candler had no involvement in the earlier homicide that prompted the visit. Knight pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Indian Country and Armstrong pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon in Indian Country and to using, carrying, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence; Knight was later sentenced to 210 months in federal prison. Did anyone in Seminole know Scotty Candler or have information about that night?
