A house party in Stillwater, Oklahoma, ended in tragedy on December 20–21, 2014, when 21-year-old Alexander Lee Vierling was fatally shot. Earlier that day Vierling had bought a .22 Magnum revolver and, with only one bullet in the cylinder, had tried to obtain more ammunition without success. The single round discharged and struck Vierling in the forehead.
Taylor placed a 911 call at 12:07 a.m. on December 21. Police say she told officers on arrival that she shot him, that it was an accident, and that she thought the gun was a toy. Vierling was taken to Stillwater Medical Center and transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he died on December 21, 2014. Taylor was arrested and charged with first-degree manslaughter for recklessly handling a firearm.
What details about that night or the people involved might help clarify how this deadly mistake happened?
