Peter D. Yalda, 18, was fatally shot on March 14, 2011, while walking near his home in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting occurred amid a year of sharply rising violence in Chicago, when the city recorded over 430 homicides and North Lawndale was among the hardest-hit areas.
Accounts of the incident note that the confrontation with an individual led to the fatal encounter, and the broader pattern of 2011 violence—marked by escalating gang tensions and retaliatory attacks—has led observers to view Yalda’s killing as possibly gang-related. Investigators faced the same obstacles common in many cases from that period: few witnesses and community reluctance to come forward.
If anyone knew Peter, saw him that day, or has information about the shooting, please share what is known with Chicago authorities.
