Derrick Hutchins Jr., 19, was fatally shot on the evening of Saturday, October 22, 2022, in the 1700 block of Alexander Street in Greenville, Mississippi. Gunfire began at about 8 p.m.; when it ended Hutchins had been mortally wounded and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington County Coroner’s Office. An innocent bystander was also struck and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Greenville Police Department opened a homicide investigation and identified a person of interest, but as of the initial reports no suspects had been publicly named or arrested and the motive remained unclear. Investigators appealed to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest.
