Nine-year-old Lily Nicole Bracey died on October 12, 2022, after a bullet struck her at the Graystone Hills apartment complex on Chadwick Drive in Jackson, Mississippi. She was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center but succumbed to her injuries. Reports describe the shooting as accidental and say the firearm was discharged by another nine-year-old child; the weapon had been provided by 18-year-old Tristan Kimes.

Jackson police arrested Kimes and charged him with tampering with evidence, possession of a stolen firearm, contributing to the neglect or delinquency of a child, and felonious abuse and/or battery of a child. Investigators say Kimes allegedly discarded the firearm in nearby bushes after the shooting. The Jackson Public School District offered counseling to students and staff, and neighbors remember Lily as a respectful, intelligent child.
