Greenville detective Myiesha Stewart, 30, was killed while responding to a reported shooting on the evening of Tuesday, October 11, 2022. A Greenville native and Delta State University criminal justice graduate, Stewart was a detective with the Greenville Police Department and left behind a young son.
Police say the call brought officers to the intersection of Reed and Rebecca Streets near U.S. Highway 82 and Mississippi Highway 1. When Detective Stewart arrived, the scene escalated into what officials described as a big shootout. Before Stewart was killed, the suspect had shot a man in the head and a woman in the foot; the suspect and the male victim were airlifted to a Jackson hospital.
The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Kamarcus Charles of Greenville and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation took over the probe. Charles was charged with capital murder and denied bond at an initial appearance on October 20, 2022. If anyone knew Detective Stewart, her family, or witnessed the events that night, please share information that could help clarify what happened.
