Parmvir Singh was 33 when he was killed on September 11, 2022, while working as a clerk inside the Chevron convenience store on Cliff Gookin Boulevard in Tupelo, Mississippi. Having been in the United States about 14 months, he bicycled to work, supported a family back in Dhapai, Kapurthala, Punjab, and was his parents’ only son with plans to bring them to America.
Surveillance footage shows a man later identified as Chris Copeland enter the store around 9:30 a.m., armed and demanding money. Singh complied, handed over register cash, opened the safe and provided a bank bag. After Copeland ordered him to the floor, Copeland walked behind the kneeling clerk and shot him once in the back of the head at point-blank range. Singh was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in grave condition and was pronounced dead about six hours later.
The Tupelo Police Department arrested Christopher Copeland hours after the killing and charged him with capital murder and possession of a firearm by a felon; he was held without bond. Hundreds in the community attended a candlelight vigil at the gas station after Singh’s death. Does anyone have information about Parmvir’s life in Tupelo or remembers seeing him around town?
