Frankie Maurice Cathey was 43 when he was found dead on the living room couch of his Highway 309 home in the Chulahoma area of Holly Springs, Mississippi. Law enforcement says Cathey had sustained multiple 9mm gunshot wounds to his upper body and had been dead for several hours when his mother called authorities on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. Shell casings were scattered at the scene and a 9mm pistol believed to have been discarded by the suspects was recovered nearby.

Investigators identified two suspects and by the following morning both had been taken into custody and charged with capital murder; a judge denied bond. Authorities believed the shooting was linked to an attempted robbery. Cathey, who worked as a barber, was buried on August 14, 2022, at Carter Memorial Cemetery in Senatobia.
