Shawmayne Giselle Marie McClam was 27 when she was killed at her Gulfport, Mississippi, apartment on June 21, 2022. The shooting began after a dispute with 20-year-old Makhari Seven Gasaway; he produced a gun and opened fire, fatally wounding McClam and critically injuring her sister. Other family members — including McClam’s mother, brother, and two children — were present but not physically harmed.
Two days after the shooting, Gasaway was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in McClam’s death and aggravated assault for the attack on her sister. Reports say investigators tied the outburst to Gasaway’s discovery that McClam was a transgender woman. McClam had recently completed training to become a certified nursing assistant and was remembered by family as kind and beautiful.
Does anyone have information about Shawmayne, her life in Gulfport, or the night of June 21, 2022?
