On Friday afternoon, June 3, 2022, 44-year-old Ebony Leshay Crockett, a Black/African American woman and employee at the Amazon distribution center in Horn Lake, Mississippi, was shot and killed in the facility’s parking lot. She was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound. The attack followed a history of personal conflict and domestic issues between Crockett and her ex-boyfriend, Corey D. Brewer, who had been accused of stalking and harassment. A no-contact order had been issued against Brewer the day before the shooting.
Brewer, a former employee at the same Amazon facility, fled after the attack. Memphis police located him later that afternoon; during a traffic stop shots were exchanged and Brewer was shot and killed by officers. Crockett’s family has retained a civil rights and personal injury attorney and is questioning what security measures were in place at the Amazon site, saying Brewer had been on the property for a significant time before the shooting.
Are there details about the facility’s security that someone who worked there or witnessed the events that afternoon can share?
