Jonathan Cardero Patterson was 34 and lived in Moss Point, Mississippi. Born November 22, 1987, at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, he stayed on the Gulf Coast, worked as a hotel porter at the Hard Rock Casino, and was described by family as a fun, loving, outgoing uncle who spent time coaching nephews Kameron Patterson and Bryant McCorvey on basketball and baseball. He was buried at Machpelah Cemetery after a funeral on May 28, 2022, at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Moss Point.

In the early hours of May 19, 2022, just after 1:00 a.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 3800 block of Johnson Street. Patterson was found gravely wounded and taken to USA Hospital in Mobile, Alabama, where he died later that morning. Investigators treated the incident as a drive-by shooting; witnesses reported hearing a loud vehicle just before the gunfire and said a passing car left the scene. Crime Stoppers later listed the case as a cold case, and public updates show no suspect publicly identified, arrested, or charged in Patterson’s killing.

If anyone heard or saw a vehicle in the 3800 block of Johnson Street on May 19, 2022, or has other information about that early-morning shooting, please come forward.
