Anthony Armstrong, 34, of Vardaman, was shot multiple times after an argument while visiting a friend in Derma, Mississippi, on the evening of April 27, 2022. Wounded, he fled to a neighboring house on Terry Drive and collapsed on the front porch. The homeowner called for help, but Armstrong died before assistance arrived; the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was notified at about 8 p.m.

Investigators identified 36-year-old Taurus Shaw of Calhoun City as a suspect and obtained a warrant charging him with first-degree murder. A manhunt by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals led to Shaw’s arrest at a motel on McCullough Boulevard on May 3, 2022. The shooting has been described as resulting from an argument that turned deadly.
