On the evening of Sunday, March 6, 2022, Meridian police responded at 5:42 p.m. to the 2100 block of 43rd Avenue and found 21-year-old Quadarius Short in a backyard with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Short was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead; his death was recorded as the city’s first homicide of 2022.
That same night, another man arrived at an emergency room with multiple gunshot wounds minutes after Short was found. Detectives said both shootings happened on the same block, but it was unclear whether the two incidents were directly related. On April 15, 2022, an arrest warrant was issued for 23-year-old Kamion Land; a few days later Land surrendered and was charged with murder and held without bond.
If anyone in the 2100 block of 43rd Avenue that night saw something or has information about either shooting, please share what you know.
