A New Year’s Eve party in Gulfport, Mississippi, ended in a mass shooting that left 23-year-old Corey Dubose and three others dead. The gathering had swollen to more than 100 people when an argument between Dubose and 22-year-old Aubrey Lewis reportedly escalated into both men firing at each other. Witnesses say additional people in the crowd then drew firearms, including 9mm handguns and AR-15 style rifles, and gunfire spread through the crowd.
Corey Dubose was pronounced dead on January 1, 2022, at Memorial Hospital. Investigators from the Gulfport Police Department interviewed more than 20 witnesses as part of an extensive probe that produced multiple arrests. Among those taken into custody was 23-year-old Isavian Preston, arrested in Kentucky on an identity theft charge and held for extradition to Mississippi on first- and second-degree murder charges; other suspects faced second-degree murder and related charges. Reports noted alleged gang ties for some individuals but did not treat that as a confirmed motive.
If anyone was at the Gulfport party or has information about the sequence of events that night, please come forward.
