On the evening of December 3, 2021, gunfire at the B&B Store in Brooksville, Mississippi, left 18-year-old Dewane’drien Dequan Johnson dead. Johnson, known as Homa to friends and family, was a Black student at Noxubee County High School who loved basketball, animals, and spending time with loved ones. He was born April 22, 2003, in Starkville.
The shooting occurred while Johnson was inside a vehicle; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The attack also killed 24-year-old Nakiren Ratcliff and critically wounded a third person. The Noxubee County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation opened a homicide investigation that resulted in arrests of two suspects, Jaquraus Wells and Kendal Thomas. Both were charged with two counts of capital murder and aggravated assault; Thomas faced an additional drive-by shooting charge. Wells’ bond was set at $1.2 million and Thomas’ at $1.3 million.
Does anyone have information about Dewane’drien’s last movements or who was with him that night?
