Jaihlen Sims was 17 when he was fatally shot in his Canton, Mississippi home in the early hours of October 6, 2021. At about 1:30 a.m. Sims was holding his two-month-old infant son when gunfire struck the residence on North Canal Street; Sims was hit in the head, taken to a local hospital, and later died. Investigators recovered several shell casings outside the home that are believed to have come from a rifle such as an AR-15.
Authorities have not publicly identified suspects or announced any arrests. A clear motive has not been established. Sims’s mother reported seeing a dark-colored Nissan driving slowly down the street shortly before the shooting, and police have expressed interest in a vehicle matching that description. The investigation remains ongoing and the family and community continue to seek answers.
If anyone has information about the shooting, the vehicle seen that night, or other details that could help investigators, please come forward.
