Derecus Antonio Conerly, a 20-year-old Black man from Summit, Mississippi, was reported missing by his family on June 26, 2021. Two days later his body was found inside a burned-out vehicle on Jeanette Lane just outside Summit in Pike County. Severe burns complicated identification, but the Mississippi Crime Lab positively identified him by fingerprints.

The Pike County Coroner, Wally Jones, determined Conerly died from gunshot wounds suffered before the vehicle was set ablaze; an autopsy found three gunshot wounds to the head and neck. A joint investigation involved the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, and the state crime lab. The family offered a $20,000 reward for information, and no arrests have been announced. A Pike County sheriff’s deputy was later fired after family and NAACP complaints about disrespectful conduct at the scene.

Does anyone have information about Conerly, his movements in late June 2021, or who might have been involved?
