On the evening of May 18, 2021, 24-year-old Lorenzin Brown, a Black/African American male, was found dead from a gunshot wound on King Street in Tupelo, Mississippi. The Lee County Coroner confirmed his identity and the cause of death, and the body was sent to the state crime lab for autopsy. Calls of gunfire brought the Tupelo Police Department to the scene around 6 p.m.
The investigation produced multiple arrests. Tupelo resident 43-year-old Kortoris Burks was taken into custody first and charged with first-degree murder; a municipal judge ordered he be held without bond. Investigators later arrested 29-year-old Justerrica Pegues of Tupelo and 20-year-old Amari Johnson of Aberdeen, and both were also charged with first-degree murder. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to establish what happened that evening.
If anyone has information about Lorenzin Brown, his movements that night, or the people involved, please share what you know with investigators.
