Laquint Quint Johnson was 21 when he was shot and fatally wounded on January 26, 2021, in Greenville, Mississippi. Around 11:22 a.m. someone at a residence on the 300 block of Beauchamp Avenue opened their door to find Johnson needing medical help; a witness helped him into a pickup truck and rushed him to the emergency room. Johnson had three gunshot wounds to his right rib cage, hip, and knee. He identified his attacker as Irving Carter before he died. Police recovered a turquoise 9mm firearm and keys on the Beauchamp Avenue doorstep, and found Johnson’s white Toyota 4Runner in a nearby alley with shell casings by the driver’s door and inside the vehicle. A short time later officers located 19-year-old Fabulous Carter with a gunshot wound to his right knee on the 300 block of Poplar Street; he had told a friend he had shot someone but initially refused hospital care.
During questioning Carter admitted he had befriended Johnson on Facebook Messenger with the stated intent of luring him to be robbed. He said he pulled a gun in an alley behind Beauchamp Avenue, shot Johnson multiple times, and was wounded himself in a struggle over the weapon. Carter later pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. Did anyone who knew Laquint notice unusual contacts or messages in the days before January 26, 2021?
