Demarco Peaches, a 39-year-old Black man, was killed in Tunica, Mississippi, late on August 26, 2020. The shooting occurred shortly before 10 p.m. near Highway 61 between Gay and Anderson Streets. Responders found Peaches unresponsive inside a vehicle; the Tunica County Deputy Coroner pronounced him dead.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a vehicle leave the scene after gunfire. Deputies located that vehicle at the Tunica Courts Apartments and, following the subsequent investigation, identified 22-year-old Calvin Hurd III of Tunica as a person allegedly involved. Warrants were obtained, and Hurd was taken into custody and charged with murder and drive-by shooting. The investigation into the circumstances of Peaches’ death remained active.
