Frederick Hunt Jr., 26, known to many as Lil Fred, was shot to death on Lamar Street in Natchez on Sunday, February 9, 2020. Police said the attack was believed to be a drive-by; Adams County Coroner James Lee reported Hunt was struck at least twice, including a fatal chest wound, and his body was sent to Jackson for autopsy. The scene was processed for evidence and investigators recovered a vehicle they believed had been used in the shooting.

Natchez and Adams County investigators worked the case, with the sheriff’s special response team assisting. By late 2021 the killing remained unsolved: no suspect had been publicly identified and no arrest announced. In December 2021 a reward of up to $10,000 was offered for information leading to an arrest, including contributions from Southwest Mississippi Crime Stoppers and Hunt’s family. Hunt’s community remembered him as family-oriented and outgoing; memorials note the loss as part of the area’s gun violence toll.
