On October 4, 2019, 23-year-old Scottie Rodgers, a Black/African American man, was brought to Merit Health in Natchez after being shot. A female companion, Curleesia Knight, also arrived with gunshot wounds and was later transferred to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Medical staff pronounced Rodgers dead at the hospital.
The Natchez Police Department, assisted by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, opened a homicide investigation. Investigators reported that drugs were a factor in the circumstances surrounding the shooting, though the motive was not immediately clear. Authorities identified three young people allegedly connected to the incident and arrested them: Jeremiyah Clark, 18, and Jalin Johnson, 17, were charged with murder and aggravated assault, and 18-year-old Zakya Jones was charged as an accessory before the fact. All three were held at the Adams County Jail with no bond initially set.
If anyone has information about Rodgers, Knight, or the events of that night, please share what you know.
