Roland Von Kurnatowski, 68, died from a single gunshot on the evening of Sunday, September 1, 2019, on his property near Carriere, Mississippi. He was hunting wild boar alone when a shot struck him in the chest. A family friend found him after his wife, Mary, was unable to reach him.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and the county coroner concluded the death was a hunting accident; foul play was not suspected. Investigators reported Von Kurnatowski was climbing a ladder with a .45 caliber rifle when it discharged. Although the magazine had been removed, one round remained in the chamber. Ballistics and forensic testing were left pending, and no arrests or suspects were ever named.
Friends said he was upbeat despite legal and financial troubles and believed he would not have taken his own life. Does anyone who knew Roland or was on that property that weekend have additional details to share?
