George Hosey was 42 when he was killed by a single gunshot to the head inside a home on 11th Street, just off 1st Avenue in Laurel, Mississippi, on July 28, 2019. Reports say the fatal shot came while he was asleep; online tributes remember him by the nickname Squirt and note he left three children.
Laurel investigators executed a search warrant at a University Avenue residence and arrested Devante Malik Boyd on unrelated felony allegations; Boyd was held in the Jones County Adult Detention Center. While Boyd was in custody on those separate charges, authorities charged him with Hosey’s murder. Boyd was later tried on the unrelated aggravated assault and armed robbery counts at South Central Place and was acquitted; the judge then ordered his release from jail.
Does anyone have information about the investigation or what became of the murder charge in George Hosey’s case?
