A 19-year-old woman, Shayna Catherine Cline, was found dead from a gunshot wound in a vacant lot on the 400 block of Martin Luther King Avenue in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in the early morning of July 21, 2019. Officers responded around 3:40 a.m. and discovered her body; her death was one of several fatal shootings that weekend in the state.

Police located a suspect across the street on the 100 block of Ruby Avenue and arrested 31-year-old Billy Lester, identified in reports as Cline’s boyfriend. Lester was booked into the Forrest County Jail and charged with first-degree murder; bond was set at $800,000. Officials described the case as a domestic homicide.
