Alexandria Ally Kostial was 21 and a University of Mississippi marketing student when she was found dead near Sardis Lake on July 20, 2019. A Lafayette County deputy on routine patrol discovered her body in a remote fishing camp area about 30 miles from the Ole Miss campus. An autopsy later determined she died from multiple gunshot wounds; her death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators focused on 22-year-old fellow student Brandon Theesfeld after text messages synced to Kostial’s Apple Watch and other evidence led them to him. Her cell phone was missing, and authorities recovered a letter in Theesfeld’s apartment prosecutors described as a confession in which he wrote about struggles with terrible thoughts tied to cocaine and alcohol. Texts showed their on-and-off relationship had been volatile; Kostial had told Theesfeld she might be pregnant and sent a photo of an inconclusive home test, and Theesfeld said he was not ready to be a father. An autopsy later found Kostial was not pregnant.
Three days after her body was found, Theesfeld was arrested in Memphis, Tennessee. Did anyone who knew Ally or their circle notice signs of how volatile that relationship had become?
