On the evening of May 29, 2019, 27-year-old Talimon Edwards was found fatally shot in the front passenger seat of a vehicle at 22nd Street and Royal Road in Meridian, Mississippi. Elbert Earl Carpenter Jr. was also found dead in the driver’s seat; both had been shot from the back seat in what investigators described as a non-random act of violence.
Authorities said the motive may have been an attempted robbery and that the victims and their assailant or assailants likely knew each other. The Meridian Police Department’s investigation used public tips and video evidence and resulted in multiple arrests: Myson Mosley, Tavion Radcliff, and Jyquan Radcliff were charged with capital murder, and later Cedric Rodgers and Jayvion Smith were also charged with two counts of capital murder. Smith was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and faced an additional unrelated murder charge.
The slayings were described as stemming from an ongoing dispute and were not believed to be gang-related. Did anyone in Meridian at the time see activity near 22nd Street and Royal Road that evening or know the victims’ movements that night?
