On the morning of April 28, 2019, 30-year-old Tajh Hikeem Forbes Sr. was fatally shot while sitting in his car near a makeshift bar at 20th Avenue and 17th Street in Meridian, Mississippi. Forbes, born February 9, 1989, was a father of seven and reportedly working to turn his life around and help local children. He was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen and arm.

Investigators identified Marcus Wooten of Meridian as a suspect. Wooten had also sustained gunshot wounds after the incident; police believe Wooten fired into Forbes’ vehicle and that an unidentified passenger in Forbes’ car then shot Wooten as he fled. Officers followed a blood trail to a drainage ditch where a gun was recovered, and later located the injured Wooten at a nearby home. Ballistics linked the firearm to shell casings at the scene.

After his hospital release, Wooten was charged with Forbes’ murder and appeared for a preliminary hearing on May 14, 2019; a detective said a witness saw Wooten approach Forbes’ car and fire multiple shots, and that both men had identified themselves as members of the Gangster Disciples. Was anyone in the area that morning who can add details about what happened at 20th Avenue and 17th Street?
