On April 14, 2019, Henry Lee Gray, 67, was found dead on the living room floor of his Ridgeland, Mississippi home with several gunshot wounds to his chest. He was later buried at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS.

Police identified Gray’s 39-year-old son, Robert Lee Shelton, as the primary suspect after family interviews at the scene. Shelton fled but was later located and taken into custody in Belzoni, about 80 miles northwest of Ridgeland, and was charged with his father’s murder. Authorities did not immediately disclose a motive for the shooting.
